Income Tax Notice: Have you also received Income Tax notice? Know these things of work

Section 142: If a person has not filed ITR, then the Income Tax Officer can ask him to file the return by giving a notice under section 142. Notices can also be sent under this section for seeking minor information or clarifications.

Section 143 (2): This is a notice of scrutiny. This means that the Income Tax Department wants information from you in some more details. Under this, many information like book of accounts, bank statement can be asked. Based on these assessment will be done. This notice comes after filing income tax return. People get this notice the most.

Section 144: It is called Best Judgment Assessment. If you have not filed ITR or have not responded to the notice issued under section 142 or 143(2), then the Income Tax Officer can send a notice under section-144. In such a situation, the officers can assess the income on the basis of existing information and impose tax, interest and penalty on it.

Section 147/148/149: If the Income Tax Department officer finds that the earlier assessment of your income does not include some income or you have any income which has not been disclosed earlier, then this notice may come.

Section 143(1): Under this notice comes when you have made any mistake in ITR or have given wrong information. In such a situation, the Income Tax Officer asks your side by issuing a notice. If you are not satisfied with the answer, your tax can be increased or the deduction can be reduced.

Also, send notices under section 139(9) for defective return, section 153(A) for search and seizure, section 156 for tax, interest or penalty in arrears, section 131(A) on suspicion of suppression of income can go.
