A Delhi-based woman allegedly took to social media on Thursday to claim that she was sexually assaulted by a fellow passenger at Delhi’s Jor Bagh metro station. Several tweets made by her have given information about this incident. The woman told how the man had sexually assaulted her on the platform of the metro station on the pretext of asking for help. The woman said that even a policeman standing there did not help her.
A woman passenger tweeted that I don’t usually post on tweets, but the traumatic incident I faced today in Delhi Metro is worth noting. This is going to be a long story, so please read carefully. Today while traveling on Yellow Line, I faced sexual harassment at Jor Bagh station.
She said that the man had asked me for help to get an address during the metro ride. I helped her, then he got down at his station and sat on the platform to book a cab. The man again contacted me at the station under the guise of confirming the address. I thought he needed help.
The woman said that she also went to a nearby police officer to complain about the accused, however, she said that he could not do anything and asked her to go to other police officers and register a complaint.
I looked in his file what he was trying to show me. Meanwhile, I noticed that he was trying to show me his open penis as well. He tried to do this three times. As soon as I saw it, I got up and ran away because I was scared and could not even think. I immediately contacted a policeman standing on the platform.
The woman said she flatly refused to help me and asked me to go upstairs to talk about it. I was still scared, but somehow I managed to go upstairs and tell the other policemen about the incident. I told her to take me to the CCTV room so that I can recognize her.
The victim said that I recognized her. The whole incident was caught on camera, but then we saw him getting down in a different metro. I asked the police to do something about it, but instead they started blaming me and said that I should have made a scene and there is nothing in it.
However, taking cognizance of the incident after the tweet, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has asked the woman to tell the exact time of the incident. DMRC has tweeted and said that please tell the exact time of the incident. In such cases, passengers are requested to immediately report the matter to the nearest Metro staff or contact the Customer Care Center at the station.
DMRC said that they can also call on DMRC helpline number 155370 or CISF helpline number 155655 to provide immediate help.
