WhatsApp has given an update about this feature which users have been waiting for ever. WhatsApp revealed in a blog post that it is bringing the edit button. From now on users can have full control over the chat, it said. Minor spelling mistakes can be corrected and any additional information can be added. WhatsApp has explained in a blog post how to use the edit option button. Once sent message can be edited within 15 minutes only.

If the user wants to edit the sent message, the user has to long press on the message. After doing this WhatsApp will show a drop down list. It has various options along with edit button. To correct mistakes in the message, click on the edit button to add additional information. After editing, click ‘Done’ to change the sent message. However, it will show ‘Edited’ to indicate that the message has been edited. This will let the receiver know that it is an edited message. But, the receiver cannot know what changes have been made in the message. Does not show ‘edit history’ to receiver.
Competing against competing apps..
Chats can now be end-to-end encrypted on WhatsApp. The security feature also works for photos and videos. This will also be applied to the upcoming edit button on WhatsApp. WhatsApp says that edited messages will be end-to-end encrypted. Edit button will be available in few weeks. WhatsApp will introduce this feature to compete with Telegram and Signal apps. Users already have an edit option in these apps. Edit tweet option was also available on Twitter last year.
